Comparison

Crest vs Vibe Island: which notch app for your coding agents?

Vibe Island does one job: every coding agent you run, in the notch. It follows 30 of them, takes you back to the exact terminal pane, and costs $19.99 once for one Mac. Crest answers Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI from the notch on its free tier, and the same notch holds your music, your files and your clipboard. If agents are all you want up there and you run more than those three, Vibe Island covers more. Here is where each one is the better pick.

Full disclosure: this page is published by the makers of Crest. Vibe Island's prices and limits below are taken from Vibe Island's own pages, checked on 6 October 2026, and the things it genuinely does better are listed as plainly as our own side.

The short version

Pick Vibe Island if you run agents beyond Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI, such as Gemini CLI, Cursor, OpenCode, Droid or Kiro, you want a click to land on the exact tab or split pane in Ghostty, Warp or Kitty, or you run agents on other machines over SSH. It is $19.99 once for one Mac, with a year of updates and a 2-day trial.

Pick Crest if your agents are Claude Code, Codex or Copilot CLI and you want to allow, deny and answer them from the notch without paying, or you want the notch to do more than agents: music with synced lyrics, a file Shelf, clipboard history, and widgets for the rest of the day.

Where Vibe Island is better

  • It follows far more agents. Thirty by its own list: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, OpenCode, Droid, Kiro, Copilot, Amp, Qwen, Kimi Code and more, with Claude Desktop's Chat and Cowork added in August. Crest follows three. If your day runs on Gemini CLI or Cursor, this is a short decision.
  • It lands you in the exact pane. A click takes you to the tab and split pane where the agent runs, in iTerm2, Ghostty, Terminal, Warp, WezTerm, Kitty, Zellij and editor terminals, tmux included. Crest finds the exact tab in iTerm2 and Terminal and the pane in tmux, and only brings other terminals to the front.
  • Plan review, SSH and your iPhone. Read an agent's plan as Markdown and reply before it edits anything, follow agents running on other machines over SSH, and forward approvals to your phone with the Bark app. Crest does none of the three.
  • It ships often. Four releases between 22 August and 26 September 2026, by its changelog, most of them adding agents or fixing how a session finds its way back.

Where Crest is better

  • Answering your agents is free. When Claude Code, Codex or Copilot CLI asks for permission, the request pins to the notch with Allow and Deny, and Claude Code's questions come one at a time as cards you tap or type into. That is all in the free tier, with no account and no clock. Vibe Island's trial lasts two days.
  • The notch does the rest of your day too. Now Playing with synced lyrics, a Shelf for files and your clipboard history are free. Pro adds pages of widgets: the next meeting with a Join button, notes, to-dos, weather, batteries, CPU and memory, and pull requests.
  • Two Macs, and a monthly option. Crest Pro is $24.99 once for two Macs, or $2.99 a month or $14.99 a year. Vibe Island's $19.99 covers one Mac.
  • A screen recorder and a meeting notetaker in the same purchase. Take stages every recording with zooms from your clicks, and Minutes records both sides of a call and summarizes it on the Mac. Both come with Crest Pro.

The pricing math

Vibe Island is $19.99 once for one Mac, with one year of updates; its pricing box also offers 2-Mac and 3-Mac licences. After the year the app keeps working and renewing is optional. There is a 2-day trial with every feature and no card, and a 14-day refund by email. Crest answers Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI for free. Crest Pro, with Take and Minutes, is $24.99 once for two Macs, with updates through Crest 7, or $2.99 a month, with a 7-day refund.

If what you need is Allow, Deny and answers for Claude Code, Codex or Copilot CLI, Crest costs nothing, so price is not the question. If you need Gemini CLI, Cursor or agents over SSH, Vibe Island is the app that does it, and $19.99 is a fair price for that.

Do you need a notch app at all?

If all you want is to hear about it when Claude Code finishes or stops for you, Claude Code's own hooks can post a macOS notification with no app at all. Claude Code notifications on a Mac walks through that, step by step. A notch app is what you add when you want to answer the request where you are instead of going back to the terminal. How that works in Crest, with pictures, is on Claude Code in the notch.
