A tour you choose

• After setup, Crest asks once if you'd like a one-minute tour of your notch. Not now is always fine, and nothing starts on its own.
• Each step shows the gesture in a small picture: opening Crest, turning pages, stretching a widget, the Shelf and agent questions.
• Leave whenever you like: the close button and Skip tour are on every card, and the menu bar says End the tour while it runs. Quitting Crest ends it too.
• Take the tour any time from Settings > General.

The stuck tour card is gone

• Fixed: after an update to 6.1 or 6.2, the guided tour's card could get stuck at the top of the screen, cut off, with no way to close it. Quitting and reinstalling did not help. It goes away for good the first time 6.2.1 opens.
• The tour is off for now. It comes back redesigned in a coming update, and taking it or skipping it will always be your choice.

• Ready for subscriptions: from Monday, October 5, you can subscribe to the whole suite, Crest Pro with Take and Minutes, for $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year. Or buy all three once for $24.99, with updates through Crest 7.
• Already own Crest Pro? Nothing changes. You keep free updates for life, and nobody will ask you to subscribe.
• Subscribed? Settings shows your plan and when it renews, and Manage subscription opens Paddle to change it, cancel it or update your card.
• A subscription keeps working offline for 30 days. If it ends, Crest goes back to the free tier and keeps your pages, widgets and settings, so Pro picks up where you left off when you come back.
• Update checks now also say whether the day-3 Pro reminder was shown, never linked to you. Share anonymous install count in Settings > General turns it off.

Crest 6: the notch, redesigned from the ground up

• One shape that grows out of the notch and settles back with real spring physics, whatever it is showing.
• Music lives on the closed notch in the style you pick: bubbles with the album art and an equaliser that moves while the music plays, or wings inside the notch.
• Pages instead of tabs: Now, Home, Work and Code. Swipe with two fingers to move between them, and fill each one with widgets you can stretch from small to wide.
• Claude Code, Codex and Copilot questions arrive as one card on the notch: pick an answer, type your own, or allow and deny a command, without leaving what you are doing.
• Notes, to-dos with due dates you just type, your calendar, the Shelf and a new clipboard history, all as widgets and full screens.
• Scroll on the notch to change the volume, and hold a window at the notch to snap it into one of 12 layouts.
• A new Settings window you can search, and a short first run that builds your Home from what you use.
• The custom language model option (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Ollama) is gone. Crest's Claude features now use Claude Code, and the saved key is removed from your Keychain.

An anonymous install count, and a switch to turn it off

• When Crest checks for updates it now sends a random install id it made up the first time it ran, so we can count how many Macs use it. It isn't linked to your account, your email or your licence, and it says nothing about what you do in Crest.
• Don't want it? Turn off Share anonymous install count in Settings > General. Updates keep working either way.

A quick setup in the notch, and a hidden notch that opens like one

• New to Crest? A four-step setup now runs inside the notch: how Crest opens, whether music shows in the notch, which mode fits you, and two optional extras. Each pick applies right away, and Use recommended does it all in one tap. Run it again any time from Settings > General.
• If your MacBook uses a resolution that hides the notch, Crest now opens there just like on a notch: a click opens it, with no small bar first. External screens keep the menu bar clear as before.
• The setting that picks how Crest looks on a screen without a visible notch is now called When there's no visible notch, so it's easier to find.
• New installs start with music in the notch and your free tiles first on Home. If you already use Crest, none of your settings change.

Crest for teams: rules for coding agents, team notices and team servers

• Teams can now buy Crest, Take and Minutes for 5 to 50 people in one payment, and hand the seats out from crestnotch.app/account. Nothing changes if you bought Crest for yourself.
• Team agent rules: a team's manager can set never-allow rules (like git push*) and always-allow rules (like npm test*) for Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI. Never rules apply in every agent mode while Crest runs, even when a teammate turned asking off. A teammate can switch an always-allow rule off for themselves and be asked instead.
• The approval log tells your team what happened, which agent, which project and whether it was allowed or denied, and never the command, the file or the URL.
• Team notices show once on your notch, and your team's servers appear in Hosts in their own Team group.
• Settings has a Your team page when you are on a team: its rules, your personal switches, and exactly what the log sends.
• If you use Codex, it asks you once to review Crest's updated hook in /hooks. That is Codex keeping you safe; approve it and you won't be asked again.

GitHub Copilot CLI asks on the notch too

• Copilot CLI joins Claude Code and Codex. When Copilot wants to run a command, edit a file or fetch a page, the notch shows it with Allow and Deny, rest your pointer on it to read the whole command or the lines it changes, and In terminal hands it back to Copilot's own prompt.
• Started Copilot with --yolo or an --allow flag? Then Copilot decides on its own and the notch stays out of it. If Crest is closed, Copilot asks in the terminal as usual.
• Your Copilot sessions sit in the AI Coding list with Claude and Codex: which project, what it is doing, and a jump back to its terminal.
• The AI Coding panel names who is asking, so a Copilot prompt reads Copilot wants to run in the panel as well as on the notch.
• Crest only adds its own file, ~/.copilot/hooks/crest.json, and never touches your Copilot hooks. Turning off Answer prompts on the notch removes it.

On a screen without a notch, the menu bar is yours again

• On a Mac or display without a notch, Crest no longer gets in the way of the menus under it. While it is idle, a click on its spot reaches the app's menu (Window, Help, Bookmarks), a hover waits a moment longer before it peeks, and it never peeks while one of your app's menus is open. Open on hover now opens from the peek, not straight from the menu bar. Dropping a file on it still opens the Shelf, and an approval with Allow and Deny is clickable the moment it lands. MacBooks with a notch work exactly as before.
• A Codex prompt's notification now says Codex is waiting on you, not Claude. Several prompts from one agent use its name; a mix says agent.
• New in Settings: Work with keyboard tools. Homerow, Shortcat and VoiceOver only see the app in front, and Crest never comes to the front on its own so it can't take your typing. Turn this on and opening Crest with a click or a shortcut brings it to the front, and closing it hands you back to your app. A hover never does.
• Settings names the language model for what it is: Claude's fallback when Claude Code isn't installed.

Crest asks how it is treating you, from the notch

• Once Crest has been part of three of your days, the closed notch asks how it is treating you: a star, one line, Not now and Review. Review opens the panel on the review card; Not now waits five days, and the third Not now is a no. It comes at most once a day, folds on its own, and never sits over something that needs your hand.
• The review card comes sooner (three days in, or three days after buying) and starts the name field with your first name. What you send reaches crestnotch.app once it has been read, with your first name and never your email.
• Crest tells the site when it pointed at the card, so the console can tell nobody was asked from everybody said no.

Your apps sit in the System module, and the approval sheet reads like a terminal

• The running apps are now the System module's middle column, right there between the meters and the weather: biggest memory first, Quit and Force quit on hover, no extra click. The page behind a button is gone.
• The System module fits the panel again. In 5.1.0 the Apps button under the meters pushed the bottom row off once the network graph appeared.
• The approval sheet under the notch has a header (what it is, who asked, and when), the command in a terminal well, the agent's own note under it, and a short folder line. On the notch, a command is cut at its end so it reads from its first words.

Six things people asked for, and a notch that tells you more

• Rest the pointer on a Claude Code or Codex approval and the whole ask unfolds under the notch: the full command, the file and the lines it changes, or the URL and the prompt. Deny and Allow stay where they are.
• Hosts lists the servers in your ~/.ssh/config next to the ones saved in Crest. Connect runs ssh with the alias, so your config's user, port, key and jump host all apply.
• Notes can also be saved as Markdown files in a folder you choose, one file per note, so Obsidian or any notes app picks them up. Settings, then Tools and capture.
• The System module has an Apps page: every running app with its memory, Quit, and Force quit with a confirm first.
• Quick Toggles has a Shortcuts row: pin the Shortcuts you run most and run them in one click. A run that fails says why.
• Bluetooth remembers the last battery level it saw for a device that is now off, under Last seen.
• Crest no longer opens when you sweep the pointer along the menu bar past the notch to an icon on the other side. It waits for you to stop on it.
• The Minutes module fits the panel again, and a new check makes sure every module fits its room. The Camera check uses the Mac's own mic when your headphones are Bluetooth, so they keep full sound.

The screenshot flash behaves, and the notch stays centred

• With Open on hover on, hovering the Shelved flash (or the volume, brightness and battery flashes) now opens the panel, instead of doing nothing.
• The Shelved flash can no longer get stuck on the notch. It goes away on time once the pointer leaves, even if macOS missed the pointer leaving.
• The flash's two sides now sit the same distance from the edges, and the notch comes back centred on the camera once it folds. Before, it could stay a little to the right until something else resized it.

• Take and Minutes are not sold on their own any more: one payment, $24.99, buys Crest Pro, Take and Minutes. The Take and Minutes panels and their tiles now say exactly that, at that price, instead of quoting each app on its own.
• Already own Crest Pro? The same panels offer Take and Minutes together for $5, the difference between Crest Pro and everything, and nothing else. The two prices that used to sit one above the other are gone.
• The review card (stars and a few honest words, from the notch) now also appears a week after buying Crest Pro, not only after five days of use. Later, No thanks and Send work as before.

Camera check any time, with a choice of camera and mic

• The Camera check, a look at yourself and your mic level before a call, is now one click away at any time: the corner of the Calendar tile, or the camera menu in the panel's header. It used to appear only in the minutes before a meeting.
• Pick which camera and which mic the check uses, right on the card. Your choice is kept for next time. On a Mac with a virtual camera installed (OBS, for example) the check no longer picks it for you; your own camera comes first.
• Closing the card while the camera was still waking could leave the mic on, and allowing the camera in the macOS prompt after the card had closed could turn the camera on with nothing on screen. Both are fixed: the camera and the mic are on only while the card is open.
• When a camera will not start, the card names it and gives the system's error code, and you can pick another camera without closing.
• Settings > General has a Menu bar icon switch. With the icon hidden, opening Crest again from Applications or Spotlight brings up Settings.

Prompts stay on the notch until you answer

• A Claude Code or Codex question no longer disappears from the notch after a minute. It stays until you answer it, on the notch or in the terminal, however long that takes.
• Codex permission prompts also wait for your answer now, instead of falling back to the terminal after a minute.
• When Claude asks several questions at once, one Send on the notch answers all of them, and the card stays up until the terminal has taken the answers.
• A question can be answered in your own words: Type something opens a field on the card and Crest types it into the terminal for you. Single-choice questions only for now.

Two displays, one panel, on the screen you are on

• With more than one display, the panel now opens on the screen your pointer is on. Hovering the notch on one screen no longer opens the panel on another, and the keyboard shortcut, the menu bar, an agent approval and a note all land where you are.
• Settings > Notch and display has a new Where Crest shows choice: all displays, the built-in display only, or one external display by name. Unplug the one you chose and Crest falls back to the built-in screen until it comes back.
• Macs with no notch on any display, or in clamshell mode, no longer jump between screens when a display is added or removed.

Free without an account, and a sign-in that always finishes

• Crest's free modules work without an account now. Now Playing, the Shelf, your clipboard and window snapping are there the moment you open it. You only sign in when you want the free Pro week or to buy.
• Signing in with Google or Apple finishes every time. When your browser is done it shows an Open Crest button, and if the browser still doesn't bring you back you can paste the code into Crest. A sign-in you started also survives Crest restarting.
• Your free Pro week starts the moment you sign in, whichever way you sign in. It used to wait until Crest was reopened.
• Pro tiles keep showing their readings and wear a small mark. When you tap something on one that starts a feature, a short card says what that module does, what it costs and how to try it free. Pause, mute and Claude Code's Allow and Deny always work, whatever your plan.
• Buying from inside Crest opens checkout with your account's email already filled in, and Crest unlocks as soon as you pay, with no restart.
• A new welcome lets you choose to open Crest when you log in, so it is still there after a restart. Crest no longer asks for any permission when it first opens; each one is asked when you use the feature that needs it.
• If you open Crest straight from the disk image or your Downloads folder, it offers to move itself to Applications, and the disk image now shows where to drag it.
• Bought Crest with a licence key before accounts existed? Settings has an I have a licence key row again.

Crest 5: the notch is the app

• Pointing at the notch no longer pulls the whole panel open. It peeks: the notch itself widens a little and the first four instruments in the mode you are in read themselves out beside it, one line each, what is playing, when your next meeting is, how your battery is doing. Click it and it opens the rest of the way, width first and then height, so the panel grows out of the notch instead of appearing over it.
• Because hovering peeks now, Open on hover starts off. If you liked the panel opening under your pointer, Settings > Opening and feel > Open on hover brings it back, with the delay it always had, and it still peeks first on the way.
• Your modules sit on a stage as tiles that show a live reading, not a name and an icon. Click one and it zooms in place, growing out of its own tile into the whole panel, and closing it puts it back in the seat it came from.
• Every module is in a dock along the bottom edge, on every surface, so anything is one click away from anywhere. The catalog page and the Back button are gone: there is nowhere left to go back to.
• Press and hold a tile to arrange your stage. Drag tiles to reorder them, pull the corner grip to make one wider or taller, up to four columns across and two rows deep, and everything else moves out of the way as you go. Removing a tile takes two presses, so a slip can't empty a mode.
• Switching modes no longer redraws the panel. Tiles both modes share slide to their new seats, the ones that are leaving fade out, and the arriving ones grow in. Building a mode happens right there in the panel too: name it, start from empty or copy one you already have, and pick which apps switch Crest to it while Auto is on.
• One accent colour, amber, and it means one thing now: this wants you. An approval waiting, the last minute of a timer, a meeting you can join, a device under 20%. The nineteen module colours are gone, the rest is drawn in plain ink with green, orange and red kept for what they always meant, and labels are in sentence case instead of shouting in capitals.
• If you have Reduce Motion on in System Settings, every one of these animations collapses to a short fade. Nothing slides and nothing springs, and no state is hidden behind a transition you asked not to see.

Take and Minutes can ride your modes

• Take and Minutes now appear as modules you can add to any mode, next to Crest's own. If you own them, or your free week is running, they seat like any instrument: ready when idle, and a live clock with Cut or Stop right on the tile while a recording rolls.
• If you don't own one yet, its tile wears a small lock. Pressing it shows what that app does, what it costs, and how the free week starts. Nothing pretends to be a transport it can't be, and a recording in progress is never hidden behind a lock.
• Todo lists with the same name are one list now. Naming a list "family" when "Family" already exists selects it instead of failing, and a task filed under a list that doesn't exist yet creates that list, rather than quietly landing in your default one. Same-named categories, chips, and colors all agree.
• The Open Take button now finds Take wherever it's installed, instead of assuming the Applications folder and silently doing nothing when it wasn't there.

The quiet text is easier to read

• The faintest labels in Crest were drawn too close to their background to read comfortably, and on a hovered row they were the worst of it. Every one of them is measurably clearer now, everywhere in the app. Nothing moved and nothing changed shape, so it should feel like the same Crest with less squinting.

Your licence answers for itself

• Your licence now checks in with the server every few days. A Mac you freed from your account page locks itself here within days, says exactly why, in Settings and on the locked panels, and offers the way back in: sign in, or press Activate this Mac again.
• Being offline never locks anything. No answer from the server is never treated as a refusal, and a Mac that stays offline keeps working, which is the promise Crest Pro was sold on.
• Your account page at crestnotch.app now shows when each Mac last used its licence, so choosing which one to free is no longer a guess.
• A clock that jumped forward and was corrected can no longer end your free trial for good. Crest notices the shape, asks the server to arbitrate, and the trial comes back on its own.

Your account, said plainly

• Settings now shows which account this Mac is signed in as, with a Sign out button beside it. Signing out keeps your licence and your settings; it only unlinks the account.
• If your free trial is already running on another Mac, Crest now says exactly that, instead of suggesting you try again in a moment when trying again could never work.
• Signing in with Google or Apple now reports problems plainly, like a licence that is out of seats. Before this, the browser came back and nothing anywhere said why Crest stayed locked.
• Behind the scenes: your email is stored in one canonical form so capitalisation can never lock you out, and Crest no longer re-asks the server every launch for a trial it was already refused.

Sign in with Google or Apple

• You can now sign in with Google or Apple instead of an email and a password. Your browser opens, you pick your account, and Crest unlocks itself.
• Both of them land on the same Crest account, so your licence follows you whichever you use, and the password you already have keeps working.
• If you sign in with Apple and hide your email, you can attach that to the account you already own from crestnotch.app/account, so your licence stays where you bought it.

Crest checks in on your licence, quietly

• Crest now refreshes your licence in the background when it happens to be online. You will never see it, and it never interrupts anything.
• If it has not been able to check in for a long time, Crest keeps working exactly as it does today and simply mentions it once. Nothing locks, and nothing is taken away while you are offline.

Moving your licence between Macs, handled properly

• Deactivating now hands the licence back to the server rather than just naming it, so only the Mac that actually holds it can release it.
• If a licence has been moved between more Macs than it can cover, Crest now says so plainly and tells you support can sort it out, instead of failing with a message that sends you to deactivate somewhere it would not help.

Delete means delete, everywhere

• Deleting a meeting in Minutes now removes it from the notch's Lately too, along with the decisions and action items that were inside it. Before, they kept showing up here with no way to clear them.
• Lately no longer merges two different things into one row. Two untitled meetings on the same day, or one recording exported twice, are two entries again.
• If you bought Crest with a licence key, you can now sign in from Settings. Without that, the Take and Minutes panels sat on "Checking what you own" forever and offered to sell you apps you already owned.
• A recording in progress is never hidden behind a sign-in screen.
• Crest stops offering to record a meeting when Minutes is not yours. The offer used to do nothing at all and never said why.

Your account is the whole key

• Crest asks you to sign in now, on the free tier as well as Pro. Your account is what carries a licence, so anything you buy unlocks every Mac you sign in on, and a forgotten password is one reset away where a lost key never was.
• If you already bought Crest, nothing changes and nothing locks: your licence keeps working exactly as it did, and so does a trial that is already running.
• The free 7 day trial starts from your account, so it follows you instead of being stuck to one Mac.
• The licence key box is gone. Keys still exist behind the scenes and support can still use one, but you are never asked to hold or paste anything.
• A licence for one app can no longer be spent on another by mistake. If you try, Crest now says which app it is actually for instead of failing with nothing useful.

One account, and nothing to paste

• Unlocking Pro from the notch is now just signing in. The licence key box has moved to Settings, where it stays for anyone support hands a key to, because buying has not sent a key since the last release.
• Signing in says what happened either way: unlocked, or signed in with nothing on this account yet, so a correct password never looks like a failure.
• crestnotch.app was rebuilt around the three apps. There is a products page that lists everything each one does, a page per app, and a changelog for Take and Minutes as well as this one.
• Downloading anything from the site now makes you an account first and confirms your email. That address is where your licence and your activation link live, so doing it up front means a purchase can never land somewhere you cannot reach.

Sign in once, and Pro follows you

• Buying Crest Pro now sends one activation link instead of a licence key. Choose a password there, sign in here, and Pro applies itself, on every Mac you sign in on.
• Buy Pro on a Mac that is already signed in and Crest unlocks itself the next time you open it, with nothing else to do.
• Signing in before you have bought anything now works properly: it links this Mac to your account and says so, instead of looking like it failed.
• Your licence key still exists on your account page if you ever want it. It just is not something you have to copy any more.

The host form waits for you

• Fixed: leaving the notch while adding a host (to copy an IP, a key path, anything) wiped the half-typed form. It now stays exactly as you left it until you save or cancel.

Your servers, one tap from the notch

• New Hosts module (Pro): save your SSH connections once, connect from the notch forever. Auth by ssh-agent, an identity file, or a password kept in your Keychain, never in a config file.
• Pick where each host opens: Terminal, iTerm2 and Ghostty launch connected; Tabby and Warp open with the command copied, ready to paste. A per-host override rides over the module default.
• The rack tile connects inline: your three most recent hosts, one tap each, without opening the panel.

The notch takes up exactly the space you see

• Fixed: the closed notch kept a large invisible window over the top of the screen. Screen readers and automation tools (a tester's Claude session controlling his Mac found it) could hit that window and stall. It now matches exactly what your eyes see.
• Everything else about hover, clicks, music wings, and the snap palette behaves the same, just with nothing invisible in the way.

Nothing slips past the notch

• Claude Code approvals now stick on the notch until you answer: a chime, a macOS notification, an amber menu-bar icon, and the pill shows on every display, even over fullscreen apps. An In-terminal button hands the prompt back to the CLI.
• Press Control-Option-T anywhere: the quick jot does todos too. One task per line, list markers shed, and the row names the landing list before you commit.
• Calendar's List and Month are one calendar now: a two-week upcoming list, events shared both ways, and join links you can add or edit on any event.
• Tell Claude a deadline ("finish the report, I have 2 hours") and the todo carries it. Grouped notes get a name and a real category, and a spoken meeting link lands on the event with a working Join.
• Fixed for new users: macOS never showed the Calendar and camera permission prompts on fresh installs. Both ask properly now.
• Also: a chime when a meeting turns joinable (optional, like every new sound), due times that read honestly instead of "now", and lyrics that find (with ...) credited tracks and retry after a network hiccup.

• Press Control-Option-N anywhere: a jot field drops from the notch, you type, Enter, done. No panel needed, Esc drops it, undo right after.
• Every jot chooses its target: a new note, or appended onto your latest one. Crest remembers your preference.

• Turn on the mic and it keeps listening: on-device recognition, a red dot on the notch whenever the ear is hot, each question answered in writing. Closing the panel never cancels a run.
• Go covert: one tap moves the conversation to a strip under the notch that screen shares and recordings cannot see. Present turns any answer into a teleprompter there.
• Quick AI and Prompter fold into this one surface. Your pins and rack layouts migrate themselves.
• Also new: Weather, a Notifications module, Codex sessions next to Claude Code in AI Coding, a camera pre-check before meetings, and media-key volume and brightness that work on macOS 26.
• Quality: Microphone and Speech Recognition rows in Settings > Permissions, a draggable scroll when your mode strip overflows, and the voice ear never burns a Claude run on a cough or an okay.
