Loom alternatives

Loom alternatives for Mac in 2026

The closest Loom replacement on a Mac is Cap: open source, free for personal use, with Loom-style share links and a way to bring your Loom library over. Zight and Tella are the other link-first recorders, with viewer analytics on their paid plans. If you never needed the link, only the video, CleanShot X at $35 once or Take, ours, give you a file, and Shift-Command-5 with an iCloud Drive link costs nothing. Loom is still the best at what it was built for: an instant link, viewer insights and a team library.

Last updated: October 2026

Written by the developer of Take, one of the apps below, on 7 October 2026. Every price and limit for the other apps was read that day from the maker's own page, listed under Sources at the end. We did not install or run them. Take is ranked where we think it belongs, fifth, because it has no share links, and that is what most people leaving Loom still want.

What Loom does better

Be honest about why you used Loom. Its whole design is the link: stop recording and a link is ready, the person watching needs nothing installed, and you can see who watched. On loom.com/pricing today, the free Starter plan gives each person 25 videos of up to 5 minutes at up to 720p, with share links, comments, emoji reactions and a team library. Business is $18 a user a month, with no limit on videos or length, recording up to 4K and no Loom branding. Business + AI is $24 and adds automatic titles, summaries, chapters and filler word removal. Loom runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Annual billing saves up to 17%.

None of the apps below beats that whole package. They win on one thing each: price, a file you own, open source, or how polished the video looks.

What to compare

Three questions decide it. Do you need a link with analytics, or is a file enough? What does it cost per person over a year, and is there a way to pay once? And does everyone on your team use a Mac, or do some need Windows?

Cap Free for personal use · from $29/yr

Open sourceMac, Windows, LinuxShare links

Cap is the closest thing to Loom you can download. Its Instant Mode records and gives you a share link straight away, and Studio Mode records for editing first. It is open source, runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and you can host it yourself. Its page offers to bring your Loom library into Cap.

Recording is free for personal use, with no time limit on local recordings and share links of up to 5 minutes. Work needs a licence: the Desktop License is $29 a year, or $58 once for one that never renews, with 20 share links a month of up to 5 minutes each. Cap Pro is $12 a user a month, or $8.16 billed yearly, and adds unlimited links and cloud storage, viewer analytics, password protected shares, and AI titles, summaries and chapters.

Better than Loom: open source, cheaper per person, and a one-time option for local recording.
Watch-outs: the free plan is for personal use only, and analytics need Pro.

Best for: leaving Loom without changing how you work. cap.so

Zight Free · from $9.95/user/mo billed yearly

Mac, Windows, Chrome, iPhoneShare linksGIFs

Zight records video, screenshots and GIFs and shares them as links. The free Share plan gives you 1 GB of storage, recordings of up to 5 minutes, 15 second GIFs and your last 50 captures. Create is $9.95 a user a month billed yearly, with 5 GB and no limit on length. Collaborate is $12 a user a month billed yearly and adds advanced analytics, including viewers' emails and how much of a video each person watched. Yearly billing saves 20%.

It also has video requests, where you send someone a link and they record their screen for you with no account and nothing to install on their side.

Better than Loom: cheaper per person, and screenshots and GIFs in the same app.
Watch-outs: the free plan has the same 5 minute cap as Loom's.

Best for: support and IT teams that send short clips all day. zight.com

Tella From $13/user/mo billed yearly

Mac, Windows, ChromeShare linksAnalytics

Tella is for videos that should look made rather than dashed off: you record in clips, put them together, and share the video on its own page. Pro is $13 a user a month billed yearly, with unlimited videos, recording up to 4K, clips of up to 6 hours, and analytics for views, unique viewers, watch time and engagement. Premium is $19 and adds a custom domain, removes Tella's branding, exports at 60 frames a second and adds advanced analytics. It has native recorders for macOS and Windows and a Chrome extension.

Its pricing page lists no free plan.

Better than Loom: a more polished result, and analytics on the first paid plan.
Watch-outs: no free plan, and the price shown is billed yearly.

Best for: product updates and tutorials you want to look finished. tella.com

CleanShot X $35 once · 1 year of updates

MacScreenshots and recording1 GB cloud

CleanShot X is a screenshot app first, and it records video with smart zooms and an editor. CleanShot Basic is $35 once with one year of updates, then $19 a year if you want more, and it includes 1 GB of CleanShot Cloud for one-click upload and share links. CleanShot Pro is $10 a user a month billed yearly, with unlimited cloud storage, your own domain and branding, and team and security controls.

Better than Loom: you can pay once, and you get the best screenshot tool on the Mac with it.
Watch-outs: Mac only, and 1 GB fills up fast with video.

Best for: people who take more screenshots than videos. cleanshot.com · Compared in depth: Take vs CleanShot X

Take $24.99 once, with Crest

macOS 14+No watermarkPlain .mov

Take is our app, and it is fifth here because it does not do Loom's main job: there are no share links, no viewer analytics and no comments. You get a file and send it yourself.

What it does instead is make the video better before anyone sees it. When you stop, the take is already trimmed, the pauses where nothing moves are sped up, it zooms in where you clicked and the cursor moves smoothly. It records the sound your Mac plays, keeps your camera as its own file so you can move the bubble after, and the Share sheet makes an MP4, a GIF or the original take, with the size shown before you save. Go live puts the same staged screen into Google Meet, Zoom or FaceTime as a camera.

Better than Loom: no length or video limits, no watermark, no per-seat bill, and it works offline. It comes with Crest for $24.99 once, on 2 Macs, or $2.99 a month.
Watch-outs: Mac only, no links, and the newest app here.

Best for: demos and walkthroughs you send as a file or put in docs. Compared in depth: Take vs Loom

Shift-Command-5 and an iCloud Drive link Free

Built iniCloud Drive link5 GB free

If all you want is to record and send a link, the Mac already does both. Record with Shift-Command-5 (how to screen record on a Mac), move the file into iCloud Drive, then in Finder click Share, Share a Link, and set who can open it to Anyone with the link and Can view or download. Apple's guide describes these steps. iCloud gives you 5 GB free.

There are no analytics, no comments and no editing beyond trimming in QuickTime or Finder. We did not send an iCloud link for this page.

Best for: the occasional clip, at no cost.
