Where Notion AI is better
- The notes do not just sit there. Action items become to-dos with owners, priorities and due dates. Projects get new statuses after the call. Recaps are drafted for whoever was not in the room. Minutes hands you a file and a couple of Add buttons.
- It captures without a bot too. This is worth saying because it is the same good idea: system audio plus microphone, no robot announcing itself, and it works with Zoom, Google Meet or anything else on screen.
- It is where the work already is. If your team lives in Notion, a beautiful note in a folder on one laptop is a note nobody will ever read. That is not a small point, it is usually the deciding one.
- It is not Mac only. Notion runs everywhere. Minutes needs macOS 26 on Apple Silicon and there is no version for anything else.
Where Minutes is better
- Nothing is uploaded. Recording, transcription and the summary run on your Mac with the models that ship inside macOS. The only network calls the app makes are the licence check and the update check, and there is no setting to get wrong.
- The notes are files, not pages in a service. One .md per meeting, with the summary, the decisions, the catches and the transcript inside it, next to the audio. Point the folder at Obsidian or a git repo and it just works.
- One payment, not per member per month. Notion Business is $20 a member a month, which is $240 a year for one person and $1,200 for five. Minutes is $29.99, once, forever.
- Both sides, kept apart by channel. Your microphone and the audio your Mac plays are recorded as separate tracks, so attribution is a fact rather than voice matching. Headphones change nothing, because it taps the app digitally.
- It never acts on its own. Every catch shows the sentence it came from and waits for you to press Add. That is deliberately less powerful than an agent that files things for you, and it is the right default when the agent is wrong.
The pricing math
Notion lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 and Business at $20 per member per month, with a toggle that says you save up to 20% by paying yearly. AI Meeting Notes is listed as a Business feature; Free and Plus get a trial of Notion AI. Minutes is $29.99 once.
The honest math: nobody buys Notion for the meeting notes. If you already pay for Business, AI Meeting Notes is already in your bill and Minutes has to win on where the audio goes and what you end up owning. If those two things do not matter to you, do not buy it.
If you already pay for Notion Business
Then start with what you have. Turn AI Meeting Notes on, run it for a fortnight, and see whether the notes end up somewhere useful. The only reason to add Minutes after that is a specific one: a meeting you do not want on anybody's servers, or a note you want to still be able to open in ten years without an account.
