If your notes already live in Notion, its AI Meeting Notes look like the obvious choice, until you notice the per-member bill and where the audio goes. Notion captures a call the same way Minutes does, transcribing your system audio and your microphone with no bot joining the meeting, but everything after that is different. Notion turns the call into a page in its workspace, on the Business plan. We built Minutes as a native Mac app that writes a Markdown file to your disk and never sends the audio anywhere.

Where Minutes is better

• Nothing is uploaded. Recording, transcription and the summary run on your Mac with the models that ship inside macOS. It goes online only for the licence check, the update check and an optional one-time model download, and there is no setting to get wrong.
• The notes are files, not pages in a service. Every meeting is one .md file with the summary, the decisions, the catches and the transcript inside it, next to the audio, so you can point Obsidian or a git repo at the folder and it just works.
• One payment, not per member per month. Notion Business is $20 a member a month, which is $240 a year for one person and $1,200 for five. Minutes is $9.99 once.
• Both sides, kept apart by channel. Your microphone and the audio your Mac plays are recorded as separate tracks, so who said what is a fact rather than a guess from voice matching. Headphones change nothing, because it taps the app's audio digitally.
• It never acts on its own. Every catch shows the sentence it came from and waits for you to press Add. That is deliberately less automatic than an agent that files things for you, because when an agent gets it wrong, you are the one cleaning up.

The pricing math

Notion lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 and Business at $20 per member per month, with a toggle that says you save up to 20% by paying yearly. AI Meeting Notes is listed as a Business feature, and Free and Plus get a trial of Notion AI. Minutes is $9.99 once.

Nobody buys Notion for the meeting notes, so the real question is whether you want your meetings inside it. If you already pay for Business, AI Meeting Notes is in your bill, and Minutes wins on the two things Notion cannot change: the audio never leaves your Mac, and the note is a file you own without an account.

If you already pay for Notion Business

You probably have meetings that belong in the team workspace and meetings that do not: a salary talk, a client call under an NDA, a one-to-one you would not want indexed.
